Burn Scars are uniquely different from every other type of scar that occurs. Due to the initial burn injury and the extent of deep damage that occurs, burn scars usually result in significant hypertrophy (raised appearance) that is also wide with extensive deep scar formation. As the skin is permanently altered, they (along with Keloids) are the most problematic of scars to try and improve. Burn areas that have been skin grafted also present an unusual variant of the burn scar due to its 'mesh-like' appearance from an original skin graft that was placed.
